Robert Contento, C.P.A., P.A.

65400-001a
My name is Robert Contento. I have been a Certified Public Accountant since 1980 and been very fortunate to have had a very unique and interesting career. After graduating from Pace University in New York, I went to work for Texaco. The company sent me to Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean.  In all, I worked in 38 countries. My job was to perform operating and financial audits on Texaco’s overseas affiliates and submit written reports of my findings and recommendations to executive management. The work also included mergers and acquisitions, the largest being Texaco’s acquisition of Chevron’s operations in Europe. I was away from America with Texaco for seven years.

When I returned home, I decided to come to Florida because I liked the warm climate.  I left Texaco, married my sweetheart, and we moved to Fort Lauderdale to start a new life. My first job was a CFO of a small investment banking firm until that firm was acquired. My next job was as the CFO and shareholder of a family owned business in Miami. As CFO, I became versed in the many responsibilities and challenges of an entrepreneur.  I became a strategic thinker making well thought through decisions. I was always negotiating for better credit terms with suppliers and banks. Cash management, hedging price risks and keeping the tax bill at a minimum were essential responsibilities. I was effective. During my tenure, the company more than tripled in size and was bought out by a very large corporation.

While I always had a small CPA practice with my wife, after the sale, I finally had the opportunity to practice full time. Since then, we have been fortunate to have many great small business owners as clients. They came to us mostly from referrals. Besides for handling their tax and accounting compliance, I help them with many strategic decisions they must make such as buying a new business or selling an existing one, negotiating with creditors, financial institutions, banks, and potential investors. With me, every client is educated in the importance of cash management, tax compliance and wealth creation. Helping my clients maximize the value of their businesses is always my foremost objective.

I also help people with their personal finances.  Besides for tax planning and preparation, I assist clients planning for retirement or seeking to provide for their children’s education. My clients get educated on the risks and rewards of every possible action. Personal financial planning is integral to my practice and my clients   appreciate the impartial guidance and advice I give them

Besides for business, I have other interests. I am an adjunct professor at Broward College, teaching intermediate accounting courses.  I have volunteered my time to be a mentor to underprivileged children through Big Brothers and Sisters of Broward County. I enjoy exercise, reading, travelling, cooking and being outdoors in beautiful settings.

Eija Contento, Senior Accountant

New York, June 2004 0371My name is Eija Contento. I was born in Finland. While in Finland, I went to college and studied business and accounting. Later on, I moved to Sweden and took a job as an accountant for Intel. I meet my husband, Robert, and we decided to get married and move to Florida. Once here, I started my own business, selling various spices and food ingredients to restaurants, hotels and other businesses. The business grew and over time I was approached by an investor who wanted to buy the business. After some discussion, that investor bought my business.  I then went to work with Robert. My responsibilities in the CPA practice include bookkeeping, accounting, payroll, and the various sales and payroll taxes.

On the personal side, I have volunteered my time to be a mentor to underprivileged children through Big Brothers and Sisters of Broward County. I also volunteer my time at Broward Outreach, an organization helping homeless people. I enjoy reading, travelling, yoga and walking on the beach.
